The new iPad Air 3

The iPad Air 3 is expected to be launched soon, and we can expect to see a number of different features compared to the iPad Air 2. One thing that is pretty much guaranteed is that the new iPad will be faster than its predecessors.

Launch Date And Price

Based on previous release dates, and with Christmas in mind, updated iPad models are normally released at the end of October or at the beginning of November. The price shouldn't be too hard to predict either, based on previous releases. Such is Apple's strong position, when it comes to the tablet market, the tech giant hasn't any worries about having to price its new iPad competitively. £399 is typically the set price for a new iPad, and this will probably remain the same for the iPad Air 3.

More Processing Power

Expect the iPad Air 3 to have a greater processing power than the iPad Air 2. The iPad Air 2 utilised quite similar technology to that that was used on the iPhone 6, namely a three core A8x processor. Whereas it was A8 for the iPhones. For the iPad Air 3, more processing power can be achieved by taking advantage of a 14mm process rather than the older 20mm process. The former has greater power efficiency, and can be seen in the Samsung Galaxy S6 for instance.

New Battery Technology A Possibility

One thing unlikely to change with the new iPad Air is its size. Consequently, the iPad Air 3 should be as slim as the previous version. Battery technology may be different, though, with the type of revolutionary staggered battery used for the latest MacBook possibly surfacing for the iPad Air 3. With this battery method, the battery is sliced, and then each slice is placed on top of the other in a staggered fashion. This is primarily done to complement the curved design.

Speakers Left Unchanged

Speakers have been an issue for some iPad Air users, notably how they are positioned. This, though, doesn't seem a priority for Apple on past evidence, so it's unlikely there'll be any major changes in this area for the iPad Air 3.

Touchscreen Tweaks Likely

There could be a number of features introduced for the iPad Air 3 that have been used for the MacBook and Apple Watch. In order to differentiate Air 3 from Air 2, the latest iPad model will be expected to deliver something noticeably fresh. This could be something touchscreen-related, or the introduction of a USB Type-C connector. But, changes are most likely to involve tweaks concerning the touchscreen, such as detecting how hard it's being pressed.
